Updated Saturday morning - BOV's Preluna branch was reopened today after having been closed because of a bad odour caused by a dead rat on the false ceiling.

In a statement issued after the Times of Malta said the branch was closed last Wednesday due to a rat infestation, the bank said this was not the case.

Pest control officials were seen cleaning up the building on Thursday.

The bank said that staff complained of a bad odour originating from a section of the premises and the bank immediately closed the branch to investigate the source and take remedial action.

"The source of the smell was traced to one dead rat entrapped above the soffit, which had entered the premises from outside.

In a statement today (Saturday) BOV said its branch needed to be closed down temporarily on Wednesday 'to allow urgent unexpected works to be carried out within the premises'.

It did not say what the works were but it apologised for any inconvenience caused.
