The four thieves who made off with a considerable amount of gold and silver stolen from Tresor D’Or in Palm Street, Victoria on August 26 left Malta a day later, the police said.

They said they have requested an international arrest warrant for the thieves to be held and sent to Malta to face criminal proceedings.

The police said the Romanian thieves arrived in Gozo on August 25, left the island for Malta after the burglary and left Malta a day later. Two went to Italy and two to Turkey.

In CCTV footage, one of the couples could be seen distracting the shop assistant, who was showing them jewellery in the showcase, while the other two were helping themselves to jewellery from the safe and other showcases. One of the men was seen twice stealing items from the showcase.
