Referring to Denis Bartolo’s letter (‘Pets treated well on ferries’, August 28), I would like to say that the excellence of the Virtu Ferries crew was never called into question. The members of the crew are wonderful people, caring and helpful. This, however, is not the point. These wonderful people are not dog sitters and they have other things to do than to monitor the dogs’ well-being during the crossing.
The problem is that dogs, or other animals, should not be left in hot, badly-ventilated and noisy places. If Bartolo’s dogs managed to survive in these conditions, it does not mean that other dogs can do so.
