New Juventus midfielder Hernanes has declared his delight at his “surprise” switch to the Italian champions.

The Brazilian joined Juve on deadline day from Inter for €11m and signed a three-year contract with the Turin club.

Juve opted to move for Hernanes after seeing their top target Julian Draxler join Wolfsburg.

Hernanes was unveiled yesterday and told reporters: “I was happy at Inter, it was a good experience. This move was a surprise but above all, I’m happy and content to be at Juve.

“I really never thought about it (leaving Inter) but it has occurred and things like this happen. I’m now ready for a new challenge.

“There are many beautiful things to be accomplished here.”

Juventus won the Serie A and Coppa Italia last season and finished runners-up to Barcelona in the Champions League.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side were keen to strengthen their midfield line following the departures of midfield pair Arturo Vidal and Andrea Pirlo.

Hernanes joined Inter last summer from Lazio and made a total of 39 appearances for the Nerazzurri this past season.

“Juventus remain the team to beat in the Italian Serie A,” the 30-year-old said.

“Juventus is a club that has always won and will continue to do so.”
