I totally agree with Margaret Camilleri Pace (August 28) who complained about the pigeons droppings in Sliema. The area she highlights, Dingli Street and St John Bosco Street, have become filthy with such droppings.

The number of pigeons is on the increase, thus leaving more of a mess as time goes by. Pedestrians actually get off the pavements and walk on the road, at the risk of being hit by a vehicle.

Basically, there are two ways to go about this, the first being the removal of most or all of the pigeons and, the second, the immediate cleaning of the pavements in question. I would presume that it is the Sliema local council that should look into finding a solution to this nuisance by first checking if somebody is actually breeding these pigeons. If this is the case, then it should inform the breeder of the mess andalso take action.

If, however, these pigeons are actually ‘wild’, then the local council should find a way to remove them and, possibly, take them into rural areas, if this is at all possible with pigeons.

Until all the above is done, the council should ensure that a water bowser washes down the pavements in question.

While this may seem exaggerated, the condition of the pavements and doorsteps does warrant immediate action.

I would appreciate if the council would let residents know what action they are most likely to take.
