Sunderland have allowed Italy winger Emanuele Giaccherini to join newly-promoted Serie A side Bologna on a season-long loan.

The 30-year-old joined the Black Cats from Juventus in July 2013 and made 24 Premier League appearances during his first season with the club.

An ankle injury restricted him to only eight league appearances during the 2014-15 campaign.

Giaccherini has now returned to full fitness but will feel his way back into the game with Delio Rossi’s Bologna, who have started the new Italian season with two defeats.

Luxemburgo fired

Struggling Cruzeiro have sacked former national team coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.

Luxemburgo goes with just under half the season left to play, following a run of five defeats and one draw in the last six games.

Former Real Madrid boss Luxemburgo took over in June from Marcelo Oliveira who led the side to two successive league titles but was dismissed after four games this term.

Cruzeiro lost 1-0 at home to Santos on Sunday and are 16th in the 20-team table, one place above the relegation zone.

Almost 20 coaches have been fired in the Brazilian league which started in May.

West Ham United have signed forward Nikica Jelavic from Championship side Hull City on a two-year contract.

The Hammers did not disclose the financial terms of the deal, which has an option of an additional two years, but reports said it would be worth around three million pounds.

The Dutch international spent last season on loan at French side St Etienne. His only appearance for Norwich this season came in their 2-1 League Cup win over Rotherham where he scored the winner to send the Canaries through to the third round.

Inter announced the arrival of Ljajic, who has scored 14 goals from midfield during his two seasons with Roma, on their official website late Monday.

“I want to prove that I can have an important role in this team and I hope I can soon wear the Bianconeri colours on the pitch.”
