The General Workers' Union said today that it has suspended plans for further industrial action at ST Microelectronics after having been informed that a senior official from the parent company will be coming to Malta to conclude talks on a collective agreement.

The union last week held two two-hour walkouts to press for conclusion of the talks and insisted that a senior official from the company's headquarters needed to come to Malta for the purpose.

The union said it was informed today that George Auguste, Corporate vice-president, manufacturing, will be coming to Malta after concluding company business in China.

Meetings will be held between September 14 and 18.
