The English FA has suspended ticket sales for the European Championships qualifier with Switzerland today week because of a proposed tube strike.

The FA says it has made the “temporary” move in order to allow “transport providers to ensure they can manage current ticket holders’ journey to the stadium on the night of the game.”

Last November the capacity for a fixture between England’s women and Germany was capped at 55,000 because Wembley Park tube station was closed due to planned works.

That resulted in chaotic scenes, with almost 10,000 un-able to make it to the stadium on match day.

Sevilla take Andreolli on loan

Sevilla have bolstered their fragile backline with the loan signing of Marco Andreolli from Inter.

The 29-year-old has made only eight Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri since arriving from Chievo in 2013 but now has an opportunity to play alongside - or replace - the likes of Adil Rami and Daniel Carrico at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

A statement published on Sevilla’s official website confirmed the Primera Liga club possess an option to buy Andreolli, who made his name with Chievo.

Sevilla’s defence was found severely wanting on Sunday, when they were beaten 3-0 at home by Atletico Madrid.

Roma sign Vainqueur

Midfielder William Vainqueur has completed his move from Dinamo Moscow to Roma.

The 26-year-old, who previously played for Nantes and Standard Liege, made 27 appearances for the Russian side following his move from Belgium last summer, scoring twice.

Vainqueur, who will wear the number 21 for Roma, told the club’s official website: “I’m here because Roma are a great team and Rome is a wonderful city.

“I’ll give my all for this very famous shirt. I’ve heard a lot about the Giallorossi fans – they’re one of the best sets of fans anywhere.”

Veteran Zaccardo moves to Carpi

Carpi have completed the signing of World Cup winner Cristian Zaccardo from Milan. The 33-year-old central defender has signed a two-year deal with the newly-promoted Serie A side.

A statement on Carpi’s official website read: “Carpi announces the outright signing of defender Cristian Zaccardo from AC Milan. The player has signed a contract which will expire on June 30, 2017.”

Zaccardo, capped 17 times by Italy between 2004 and 2007, was part of the squad which won the World Cup in 2006.

Carpi sit bottom of the table after losing their first two games of the season.

Perisic completes move to Inter

Inter have boosted their frontline after signing Croatia forward Ivan Perisic from Wolfsburg on a five-year deal.

The two clubs did not provide any further details of the transfer but the move was reportedly worth €20 million.

“I had a good and successful time in Wolfsburg. I would like to thank Wolfsburg officials for making my move possible,” Perisic said in a statement.

The 26-year-old joined the Wolves in 2013, netting 18 times in 70 Bundesliga matches.

Wolfsburg have also sold attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to Manchester City this summer.

Striker Matri swaps Milan for Lazio

Alessandro Matri has moved clubs for the fifth time in two years by joining Lazio on loan from Milan.

The 31-year-old striker, who moved to San Siro in August 2013 before heading to Fiorentina, Genoa and Juventus on loan during the last two seasons, will add much needed firepower to a Biancocelesti team who have lost their last two games 4-0 and 3-0, to Chievo and Bayer Leverkusen respectively.

A statement published on sslazio.it last night confirmed Matri’s arrival at the Stadio Olimpico and the seven-time Italy international will have two weeks to train with his new team-mates before Udinese arrive in the capital on September 13.

Palmeiras fans rejoice in Jesus

Palmeiras coach Marcelo Oliveira saluted two-goal teenager Gabriel Jesus and lauded his potential after a 3-2 win over Joinville in Brazil’s Serie A on Sunday.

The 18-year-old put Palmeiras ahead with a sweetly taken goal and Dudu doubled their lead after 23 minutes.

Joinville scored twice to level the match but Jesus popped up again midway through the second half to restore their lead with his seventh goal in 18 first-team matches.

He left the field five minutes later with Palmeiras fans singing “Glory, Glory Hallelujah.”

“He is growing and he will do much more as he gains in confidence,” Oliveira said.

“He has immense potential and he wasn’t promoted earlier because I worked with the youth teams for a long time and I know how it works.”
