Twente: Twente Enschede coach Alfred Schreuder became the first casualty of the new Dutch league season after being sacked on Sunday, less than 24 hours after they lost their derby match at Heracles Almelo. Schreuder, 42, had been in charge since 2013 after taking over from Steve McClaren and was officially head coach since June last year after securing the necessary qualification.

Cruz Azul: A knee ligament injury to Spanish midfielder Marc Crosas was the worst setback of a dismal Mexican Apertura championship for Cruz Azul whose home loss to America was their fourth in a row. Crosas, who is in his fourth year in Mexico, was hurt near the end of Saturday’s match and is unlikely to play again until midway through the Clausura championship in the second half of the season. The defeat at the Estadio Azul left the Blue Machine two from bottom of the Apertura standings with six points from seven matches.

Houston: Ricardo Clark and Raul Rodriguez scored for Houston Dynamo to lead them to a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Major League Soccer on Saturday. The Whitecaps played with just nine men for about 30 minutes as Kendall Watson and Matias Laba were sent off for each getting two yellow cards. The loss kept Vancouver (14-10-3) one point behind the Los Angeles Galaxy for the top spot in the MLS.

Fulham: Fulham have rejected a £10 million bid from Sheffield Wednesday for striker Ross McCormack, Press Association Sport reported. Eyebrows were raised when the west Londoners paid in the region of £11 milion to sign the Scotland forward from Leeds last summer following their relegation from the Barclays Premier League. However, McCormack has impressed in west London, leading to reported interest from the likes of Norwich and Middlesbrough.

Dante: Bayern Munich central defender Dante is joining Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg on a three-year contract after losing his starting spot. The 31-year-old Brazilian had asked for a transfer after struggling to get any playing time at Bayern this season despite the absence of several other central defenders through injury or suspension. “Dante just wanted to have the chance to play regularly. We did not want to deny him this wish,” Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.
