Foreign direct investment in financial services and insurance activities grew again last year by €6.9 billion, bringing the accumulated total to €139 billion – 98 per cent of the total for Malta – according to the National Statistics Office.
Transportation, accommodation and real estate activities brought in another €67 million, bringing the accumulated total up to €1.1 billion, now in second place, while manufacturing grew by €38.5 million, reaching an accumulated total of €878 million, putting it in third place,.
The category which includes i-gaming brought in a further €10 million, bringing the total to €490 million and putting this activity in fourth place.
In all, as at December 2014, the stock of foreign direct investment in Malta was estimated at €141.9 billion, an increase of €8.2 billion over the corresponding month in 2013.
There was a net increase of €7 billion in FDI flows during 2014, compared to an increase of €7.4 billion in 2013.
During 2014, direct investment abroad increased by €1.8 billion, compared to an increase of €2 billion the previous year.
In terms of stock position, in December 2014 direct investment abroad by resident entities was estimated at €36.7 billion.
