Motorcycling: Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo set the pace in practice for tomorrow’s British GP. The Spaniard, who is bidding for fourth victory at Silverstone, yesterday posted a best lap of 2:02.238 seconds. Marc Marquez, the defending MotoGP champion who topped the timesheets in the opening session, was just 0.033secs adrift of his Spanish compatriot. Valentino Rossi, who is level on 211 points with Lorenzo in the battle for the MotoGP title, could manage only 10th.

Basket, NBA: Derrick Rose, the 2011 NBA Most Valuable Player, is being sued by a former girlfriend who alleges he and two friends drugged and gang-raped her in 2013. Rose’s accuser, identified only as Jane Doe, said she and the three-time All-Star Chicago Bulls guard dated from 2011 to 2013. In August 2013, she said, Rose and two friends invited her to Rose’s home in Beverly Hills, California, where they slipped a drug into her drink with the aim of raping her.

Athletics: Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin will race again in Brussels next month, but not against each other, organisers of the Van Damme Diamond League meeting said. “No chance for rematch,” meeting director Wilfried Meert told Reuters in an email. “Gatlin will be in the 100 and Bolt in the 200.” Bolt ended American Gatlin’s two-year unbeaten streak with victories in both the 100 and 200 metres at the Beijing World Championships, though his participation at the Sept. 11 meeting in Brussels is contingent on fitness, his agent said.
