Firefighters during the night battled a big fire at the Ghallis non-hazardous landfill. Four fire vehicles were deployed, using  42,000 litres of water

Wasteserv personnel and contractors were on site.

Such was the blaze that residents in Iklin, some miles away, were woken up by the smell early in the morning.

Wasteserv said this morning there was no damage to the facilities within the Magħtab Environmental Complex.
