A company general manager was remanded in custody after being accused of seriously injuring his wife with a knife in the presence of the couple’s three children

The 62-year-old man, whose name cannot be published by court order, denied seriously injuring his wife at their home in Attard on Tuesday. Her fingers were slashed with the knife.

He also denied damaging her mobile phone during the argument, causing her to fear that violence will be used against her and threatening her.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri upheld a request by defence lawyers Shazoo Ghaznavi and Charlon Gouder to ban the publication of the couple’s names in order to protect their children, aged nine, 14 and 16.

But he denied a request for bail after hearing Police Inspector Christabelle Chetcuti say that the children were “very scared” of their father and expressing concern they might not testify or might change their version.
