Hoewedes: Schalke captain Benedikt Hoewedes is expected to return to team training next month after recovering from a serious ligament injury, coach Andre Breitenreiter said. The Germany defender sustained a partial ligament tear in his left ankle back in May and has been working on his comeback with individual training sessions. Initial hopes of the 27-year-old being ready for the start of the season were dashed due to a longer than expected recovery.

Afobe: Wolves manager Kenny Jackett revealed that the club have rejected an improved bid from Norwich City for striker Benik Afobe. Jackett is adamant that Afobe, who cost Wolves £2 million from Arsenal in January, will not be sold before the transfer window closes next week. Jackett said: “They have made a bid and it has been turned down. Benik Afobe is a Wolves player and when the window shuts he will still be a Wolves player.”

Jedinak: Australia captain Mile Jedinak is in doubt for World Cup qualifiers against Bangladesh and Tajikistan after injuring his hamstring playing for Crystal Palace. Jedinak came off early in the second half of Palace’s 4-1 League Cup win over Shrewsbury on Tuesday and his coach Alan Pardew feared his midfielder captain could be sidelined for some time.

Marin: Chelsea winger Marko Marin has joined Turkish side Trabzonspor on a season-long loan with an option to make the switch permanent, according to a statement from the Premier League champions. The 26-year-old German international has made just four Premier League appearances for Chelsea since joining from Werder Bremen in 2012. He has spent the last season on loan at Fiorentina and Anderlecht.
