Peter Pullicino (picture) was appointed as coach of the futsal national team, the Malta Football Association announced yesterday.

Pullicino, who last season acted as assistant coach to Paul Zammit at Birkirkara, replaces Mark Marlow who last season led the team during the Euro qualifiers.

The former Birkirkara FC midfielder will be assisted by Zelijko Ancic and their main task will be to prepare the team for the World Cup qualifiers.

John Mizzi was reconfirmed as secretary of the national team while Leandros Calleja will continue in his role of physiotherapist.

Pullicino will make his debut when he leads the team for two international friendlies against San Marino which will be played on September 25 and 28.

These matches will serve as preparation for the team’s upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.

Malta were drawn in Group C and face France, Lithuania and Albania in a mini-tournament that will be played in Vilnius.
