Matthias Gatt and Jamie Farrugia will be representing Malta at the forthcoming Mediterranean Junior Chess Championships for young players under 20 in Chania, Crete, between next Wednesday and September 3.

Both players featured well in the Malta Junior Championships, earning the right to parti-cipate in the international tour-nament.

Gatt, 12, will be playing abroad for the first time. He has shown remarkable progress in his game these past few months and had positive results against higher-rated opponents in a tournament held last month.

Farrugia, 16, has already participated with the Maltese women’s team in two Olympiads.

She is fresh from achieving the coveted Women FIDE Master title last year in Tromso, Norway.
