A Cuban man has been remanded in custody after admitting to charges of holding up the owner of a stationer’s at knifepoint on Saturday.

Eliseo Carrillo Montoro, who holds an Italian identity card, was accused of stealing €2,515 from Eros Stationary in Paceville and holding shop owner John Attard Kingswell at knifepoint.

According to Inspector Fabian Fleri, the stolen money was later spent at a casino.

Mr Montoro pleaded guilty.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea remanded him in custody and will deliver judgment on August 28.

Inspectors Fabian Fleri and Carol Fabri prosecuted, while legal aid lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace appeared for the accused.
