Australian soft rock group Air Supply hopes “to leave an impression” on audiences with their “passionate and loud” set during their concert at MFCC in Ta’ Qali on Friday.

The duo, Graham Russel and Russell Hitchcock, are on a world tour to mark their 40th anniversary. Malta and Ireland are the only two countries in Europe the group will visit while on this tour.

“After 40 years, we’re still having lots of fun and enjoying performing for our audiences. We just love to play live, it’s our passion,” Mr Russel said.

Speaking of their anniversary, the duo said they had created a unique, dynamic sound in 1975 which they have kept to this day.

“We don’t follow trends, we just do what we love. When we first started out, we were very young and still very green. Russel often jokes that we didn’t make any mistakes back then because we had no idea what was happening.”

On Friday, audiences can expect to hear most of the group’s hits, including Lost in Love, Lonely is the Night and All Out of Love. They will also be playing a new song, I Adore You, which is being released in the coming weeks.

We’ve only been here for a few hours but everybody has been so welcoming. We love it

“The new song has a very simple message, like all of our other songs. It’s a statement between two people. Telling someone you adore them is a very powerful thing so say.”

The duo said they decided to come to Malta a day before the rest of their band to tour around. The megalithic temples top their list of destinations. “We love coming to new place. We’ve only been here for a few hours but everybody has been so welcoming. We love it.”

Parking for the event will be free but Caritas representatives, wearing identification tags, will be collecting donations.
