A police inspector described in court today how the police rammed a suspected drug trafficker's car after he tried to evade arrest.

Inspector Gabriel Micallef was giving evidence against Pierre Cremona, 42, who stands accused of aggravated drug possession and dangerous driving.

Mr Cremona was arrested by the police last Wednesday after exiting the car park of the Macdonalds restaurant in Għargħur. A packet continaing 400g of cannabis was found on the passenger seat.

Inspector Micallef testified that he had received reliable information that Mr Cremona was going to be involved in a drug deal and asked police officers to monitor the area.

When Mr Cremona realised that the police were closing in, he reversed his car the length of the road but stopped at the corner when the car was rammed by the police and Mr Cremona was arrested.

Back in September 2013, Mr Cremona escaped injury when a bomb went off outside a boathouse in Armier.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri ruled there was enough evidence for  Mr Cremona to be indicted. Bail was granted against a deposit of €1,000 and a personal guarantee of €10,000.

Inspector Gabriel Micallef prosecuted while lawyers Franco Debono, Marion Camilleri and Veronique Dalli appeared for Mr Cremona.
