A Cuban man who held-up a stationery owner at knife point on Saturday morning was this afternoon remanded in custody after admitting the charges.

Eliseo Carrillo Montoro, who holds an Italian identity card, was accused of stealing €2,515 from Eros Stationery in Paceville and holding shop owner John Attard Kingswell at knife point.

According to Inspector Fabian Fleri the money stolen in the hold-up was later spent at a casino.

Mr Montoro, who was following proceedings through a translator, pleaded guilty.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea remanded him in custody and will deliver judgment on August 28.

Inspectors Fabian Fleri and Carol Fabri prosecuted while legal aid lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace appeared for the accused.
