Two 13-year-old boys were injured by fireworks near Munxar this afternoon, the police said.

The incident happened at about 3pm in a field near the village.

One of the boys, from Xlendi, suffered grievous injuries while the other, who is from Munxar, was slightly injured, the police said.

They are being treated at Gozo Hospital. 

A Magisterial inquiry is under way.
