A truck crashed down a height of some eight storeys into a valley in Xlendi, Gozo, this afternoon after smashing through barriers but no one was injured.

The police cordoned the area opposite Il Kantra Residence in Triq l-Kantra.

Raymond Brown, a crime reporter for Cambridge News in UK, who lives nearby said:

"The truck with a crane on it was parked on a steep incline at the top of the hill where Xlendi borders Munxar and opposite Kantra Residence.  "No one was in it so it was spooky how it rolled down the hill on its own and crashed through the safety railings plunging hundreds of feet into the ravine below.

"Luckily no one was on the road at the time or it could have been a terrible tragedy. Residents here are shocked at this freak accident."
