FIFA visit: FIFA will send a team to investigate the state of play in Indonesian soccer with the Southeast Asians hopeful the world governing body will overturn a ban administered for government interference. Indonesia Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi said FIFA officials would visit in October, four months after the country was banned. FIFA stepped in to ban the country in June after a long running row between the government and the local football association (PSSI) over which teams should be entered into the top flight domestic league.

Alba: Barcelona have a fit-again Jordi Alba available for today’s opening La Liga match of the campaign at Athletic Bilbao. The Spain full-back, who damaged a thigh muscle in this month’s Gamper trophy invitational match against Roma and missed the Spanish and European Super Cups, has been given the all-clear by club medical staff.

Record signing: Burnley have confirmed the club record signing of striker Andre Gray from Championship rivals Brentford. Gray has signed a three-year deal with the Clarets which, subject to paperwork, beats the £3m paid for Steven Fletcher and George Boyd in 2009 and 2014 respectively. The 24-year-old turned down a move to Bristol City on Thursday after a £9m fee had been agreed between the two clubs.

Pepe: Real Madrid defender Pepe has signed a one-year contract extension. The Portugal international’s previous deal expired in June 2016. Pepe has made 195 appearances since joining Los Blancos from FC Porto in the summer of 2007 for a fee of €30 million. The 32-year-old centre-back made 25 league starts for Real Madrid last season to help the club finished second in La Liga.

Kluivert: Former Iran boss Afshin Ghotbi has signed up to assist Curacao manager Patrick Kluivert for the Caribbean island’s World Cup qualifiers against El Salvador next month. Ghotbi, who has previously held assistant coach roles with the United States and South Korea, had been out of work since leaving Japanese club Shimzu S Pulse last year. Curacao, who became FIFA members in 2011, host El Salvador on September 4 with the return leg four days later.
