In my lifetime I have seen many elections – I am 89 years old – but I cannot remember a government that was elected on as comfortable a majority as this one, an astounding victory for Joseph Muscat.

And yet, I cannot really understand how he is being let down by those who do not know the meaning of the word dignity and do not care a hoot for the good name of the party. I cannot really understand why the Prime Minister tolerates what some of his ministers are doing, not bothering to see whether certain attitudes are harming the good name of their country and party.

I think the Prime Minister should have given a good look at the Safi Labour Party club incident. It was important, very important. And from there things have been sliding downwards at great speed.

The question asked, “what did the others do?”, does not hold water – the electorate gave the others a very heavy kick and the Maltese were expecting Muscat to go by his pre-election words.

It is a pity, actually, because with such a comfortable majority, Muscat could have moved Malta forward. As it is I feel that we have gone backwards to a state where scandals, corruption and nepotism are the order of the day.
