Birkirkara’s title aspirations could receive a major boost in the coming days after it emerged that Brazilian striker Liliu is mulling a return to the Stripes’ fold after failing to secure a move abroad.

Earlier this month, Liliu had announced that he was leaving the Maltese league to complete a transfer to an unnamed Hungarian club.

However, yesterday it was revealed that the 25-year-old’s proposed move abroad has now fallen through and that he is considering a return to the Stripes and honour his second and final year of his contract with them.

“Liliu has a clause in his two-year contract with Birkirkara that enables him to terminate his deal after one season,” Birkirkara FC president Adrian Delia told Times of Malta.

“In the last few days, he was trying to secure a move abroad but it seems that negotiations were not concluded.

“Liliu still has one year left to his contract and tomorrow (today) I will be holding talks with his agent to see if the player will be rejoining us this summer.”

The return of Liliu could turn out to be a blessing for Birkirkara who have also decided against signing Brazilian attacking midfielder Kerlon due to fitness concerns.

Coach Giovanni Tedesco is still trying to bolster his forward line and yesterday he started to run the rule over Colombian forward Mi-guel Montano, who was on the books of Quilmes in Argentina.

Mosta signings

Mosta FC added four new foreigners to their squad yesterday.

The Blues have offered Nigerian quartet Yau Hassan, a defender, midfielder Abdoul Malik Moham-med and forwards Bobby Abel and Samuel Fidelis a one-year deal.

Floriana, on their part, have handed a season-long contract to Italian Andrea Scozzese.

The towering defender, who played for Sliema Wanderers in 2014-15, impressed coach Luis Oliveira during a short trial.
