Juve’s Claudio Marchisio will miss the start of the new Serie A campaign after being ruled out for three weeks with a muscle injury in his right thigh.

The Italy midfielder got hurt in training this week and underwent tests yesterday which revealed a lesion that will see the 29-year-old sit out Sunday’s league opener against Udinese as well as the game at Roma on August 30.

Marchisio will also sit out Italy’s Euro 2016 qualifiers against Malta on Sept. 3 and against Bulgaria three days later.

The good news for Italy and Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri is that defender Giorgio Chiellini returned to training yesterday and is expected to feature this weekend.

Chiellini has fully recovered from a groin injury sustained on July 29 in a friendly against Lechia in Poland.
