A driver, 46, and his passenger, a woman, 42, have been hospitalised following a crash involving the car they were in and a van.

The crash, on the Coast Road in Bahar ic-Caghaq (Kennedy Grove) took place at about 8.30am. The van driver was unhurt.

The road was temporarily closed but has now been reopened. 

In a statement, the Malta Road Safety Council said this morning's accident showed that road signs were not being observed.  

Whilst wishing those involved a speedy recovery, the council called on all drivers to follow road signage, including speed limits and no overtaking.
