Labour’s “road map” enticed an overwhelming majority to put this party in government after so many years in Opposition. It included solutions to the energy issue.

Today, under this “progressive” administration, we witness situations such as repetitive electricity cuts and inadequate reductions in electricity rates

Tonio Fenech recently spoke clearly on Net TV about Labour’s failure in this sector, culminating in the “mysterious” Electrogas guarantee to BOV following one loan refusal after another.

As he explained, it is obvious that electricity rates have been only minimally reduced considering the price of oil today is almost half that prevalent during the PN’s administration. Equally, the amply criticised PN interconnector – today in operation thanks to necessary foresight – is now being used to the benefit of the people.

If Prime Minister Joseph Muscat fulfilled his pre-electoral promise, he should have resigned months ago given the gas power station is still non-existent. He has simply failed to keep his word.

Does he still believe that he enjoys the support of 36,000 switchers to whom he presented this illusory “road map”, incidentally incorporating an excellent public transport service among many other expectations?

As opposed to solutions, half way through this legislature we still see former Arriva buses along with vehicles owned by Autobuses de Leon, with the latter costing the Maltese people much more than Arriva in terms of subsidy, not to mention the Tallinja card chaos.

One positive aspect of this administration is that it is providing the people with ‘food for thought’ to develop an analytical approach prior to casting one’s vote at the election, which can have an impact – at times even drastically – on the quality of life for at least a whole legislature.
