Hibernians bounced back after two heavy defeats in this year’s Women’s Champions League qualifiers, to earn a 3-3 draw against Klaksvikar Itrottarfelag, of the Faroe Islands, yesterday.

The Paolites came into this match in Paphos in very low spirits following an 8-0 thrashing by Apollon Ladies in their last outing.

And when veteran Malena Josephsen opened the score after 14 minutes, the Maltese champions looked to be on their way to another upset.

Yet, Emma Xuereb levelled the scores before half-time and Charlene Zammit gave Hibernians the lead just past the hour.

However, their joy was short-lived as Klaksvikar hit back to equalise through Maria Thomsen before Josephsen, 38, made it 3-2 on 70 minutes.

But Hibs were not down yet and late on Dorianne Theuma placed her shot home for the equaliser.

Keith Gouder’s Hibs finished bottom of Group Three with one point, the same as Klaksvikar.

Iceland girls Stjarnan advanced to the next round after topping the group with three straight wins.

Yesterday, Stjarnan beat home team Apollon 2-0.

Hibernians: K. Demicoli, R. Borg, C. Sciberras, D. Theuma, E. Xuereb, R. Chetham (46 R. Naudi), M. Borg, M. Debono, S. Zammit, C. Zammit, F. Chircop (66 D. Tonna).
