Once a year.

Which festival did you attend this time round?

Rock Werchter in Belgium , held during the last week of June.

Why did you choose this particular one and was it your first time?

I chose this one mostly because of the line-up. There were a lot of bands I liked that were going to be there. The weather is also perfect at this time of year, not too cold nor too warm.

Who were the main artists on the line-up?

This year the main artists that I was really interested in were Muse, Florence & the Machine and the Chemical Brothers. I was really excited to watch The Foo Fighters and Ben Howard, but they both cancelled, unfortunately.

Which performance were you most looking forward to and why?

Muse. I’ve been listening to them since I was a young teenager and their stuff is absolutely great.

Did you camp?

Yes we did camp and it was great. Very organised and clean.

If there was one thing you would change about the festival, this would be?

I would lower the prices of food and drinks – mostly the drinks, really. And the one thing I would defiantly change is the fact that no bottles are allowed into the festival. Even if the bottle was purchased at the festival, if one goes out and tries to go back in with the same bottle, he or she is asked to throw it away. This makes no sense to me and this rule only exists to generate more revenue on their part.

Top highlight from the festival?

Muse close on Sunday night, of course. An astonishing performance.

Something weird/funny you saw?

Someone started crowd surfing, but was later dropped and ended up on the floor. I found that pretty funny.

How much ahead did you book?

About four months ahead.

Did it meet expectations?

Yes, I was very happy with the whole experience.

Something you didn’t expect or that you didn’t plan for?

I was pretty well-prepared since this was my second time.

Your advice to those who think of going next year?

Get a good pair of shoes you know you can use all day and feel comfortable in. The amount of walking and waiting around is underestimated.

Any plans for other festivals?

I have heard good things about Glastonbury...

What you need to know

Rock Werchter takes place during the last week of June/beginning of July every year in Werchter, Belgium. The festival park is located about 30km away from Brussels and is best reached through the Leuven railway station. Tickets to the festival are usually made available online about six month before.
