The St Paul Choral Society (SPCS) will be performing in three of the most prestigious venues in Paris: the Madeleine, St Sulpice and Notre Dame Cathedral.

The choir will present full-length concerts of sacred music at the Madeleine on Friday at 4pm and at St Sulpice on August 21 at 1pm. The programmes include several pieces by Maltese composers: Joseph Vella’s English Mass, Virgo Prudentissima by Francesco Azopardi, Regina Coeli by Carmelo Scerri and two anthems by the choir’s music director, Hugo Agius Muscat.

The concerts will be partly a cappella and partly accompanied on the organ by Elisabeth Conrad. The programmes also take into account the historical association of the Madeleine with the composers Camille Saint-Saëns and Gabriel Fauré and that of Saint-Sulpice with Charles-Marie Widor.

On August 22 the choir will be singing during the 6.30pm Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral. The programme for this Mass consists entirely of Maltese music and includes Carmelo Pace’s T’accogliam, Pane Celeste.

This is the choir’s third tour abroad, following successful visits to London in 2011 and Austria in 2013.
