The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority has been notified about stairlifts (Acorn stairlifts), which may pose a risk to consumers as the seat post may detach from the main seat support and result in injuries.

The stairlifts are mechanical chairs that installed on residential staircases to transport people with reduced mobility up and down the stairs.

A preventive action is being taken on the following versions of the Acorn Superglide 120: Acorn 120 Stairlift; Acorn 120 Outdoor Stairlift; Acorn 120 Superglide Stairlift; Acorn Outdoor Stairlift; and Acorn Slimline Stairlift.

The stairlifts were manufactured between March 2007 and 2011 and have serial numbers between 110101209781 and 110202352678.

On all of the mentioned stairlifts, the name ‘Acorn Superglide 120’ and serial numbers are on a silver label on the stairlift’s carriage body cover and on the underside of the steel footrest. This model of stairlift is no longer supplied by Acorn or its distributors in Malta.

The majority of affected stairlifts in Malta have already had their seatpost replaced.

Consumers who may still have one of these stairlifts installed where the seatpost has not been replaced should contact the supplier they bought the product from, so that the necessary corrective works are undertaken. Alternatively, they can contact Acorn head office on +44 1535 217928 or e-mail eurosp@acornstairlifts.com. Consumers can also call the Technical Regulations Division on 2395 2000.
