The VLTC Nexia BT U-16 European tournament came to a close last Saturday.

The boys’ singles final was contested by two youngsters who were determined to collect maximum points from this Euro U-16 tournament to strengthen their position in the rankings.

Meneloas Efstathiou, of Cyprus, beat Italy’s Raffaele Martignani in two straight sets, 6-2 6-3.

The girls’ final was contested by Russia’s Ksenia Mikhaylova and Nicoline Moller Palmgren, of Sweden.

Mikhaylova overcame Moller Palmgren’s challenge in two straight sets, 6-4 6-4.

In the doubles final, Efstathiou and Cyprus compatriot Dimitri Liveras swept past Briton Edward Cooper and Christos Fakontis, another Cypriot, winning 6-1 6-1.

Mikhaylova and Anna Tstly-kovskaya claimed the girls doubles title against Yara Fayssal, of Lebanon, and Eleni Louka, of Cyprus, 6-1 6-2.

David Farrugia Sacco, head of the Malta Tennis Federation, Paul Micallef, VLTC president, and Bernard J. Schranz, representing tournament sponsors Nexia BT, presented the trophies to the winners and runner-ups.
