5. Brave one of the St Marija morning marches

One of the biggest band marches in Gozo kicks off on Saturday at 11am, with the 12th May Band of Żebbuġ (Malta) and the Visitation Band of Għarb joining forces to create an aura of festivities across Victoria. The celebration is known for its spontaneity. There are six other locations celebrating Santa Marija this week, so if you don’t feel like going all the way up to Gozo you can still join in the fun.

4. Enjoy a more chilled out vibe at Sound Gathering with Mantra

Also in Gozo, also on Saturday. Artists Mantra Malta and Eruq team up to offer a music journey that is all about connecting with the inner self. Sound healing, manta chanting, meditation, food, teas and a strong sense of community. Kicks off at 7pm in Bakers Street, Xagħra. 3. Take in some jazz by the seaside

2. Get a couple of laughs in with some stand-up comedy

The University campus in Tal-Qroqq is hosting stand-up sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, featuring James Ryder, Malcolm Galea, Joseph Zammit and Marie Claire Pellegrini. All sessions start at 9pm. www.facebook.com/events/1438697529791624/

1. Get away from it all with a picnic at dusk

With many Maltese joining the Santa Marija revellery, next weekend should be one of the quieter ones on our beaches, as long as you don’t make the mistake of choosing the obvious ones. Grab a bottle of wine, some dips and munchies and a lamp, lie back and enjoy the stars and the fireworks (best day for this is Friday). Suggested locations include Selmun, the coast around St Paul’s Bay, Anchor Bay, White Tower Bay and Mġarr ix-Xini and Wied il-Għasri in Gozo.
