On July 22, at about 7.45pm, I was driving back home from Paradise Bay. Driving past the Veċċja, I was held up in traffic. After crawling for half an hour, I arrived near the parish church of St Paul’s Bay.

To my chagrin, I discovered the cause: two angel statues had been left standing in the middle of the road, waiting to be hoisted up onto their pedestals.

Who granted such a permit during the peak time, when people are returning from the beaches in the north of the island? What lack of common sense.

Busy roads should be closed to traffic after 10.30pm. Does anyone care about the residents inhaling the fumes of hundreds of idle cars?
