While being exciting, moving or starting a business in a new market can be a challenging prospect no matter your experience in world markets. HSBC Bank Malta understands this and has dedicated significant commitment to create tools for businesses on the verge of setting up business in Malta or Maltese businesses wishing to trade internationally.

First is a Why Malta? film which highlights the attractions of living, working and running a business in Malta. Originally unveiled in December 2013 to coincide with the first launch of the Malta Trade for Growth Fund, the 12-minute Why Malta? film is an excellent tool for businesses to use when talking to potential customers.

Owing to its popularity, Why Malta? has now been translated into five international languages, Arabic, French, German, Spanish and Mandarin, in addition to the original English version.

The video promotes Malta as a business destination and highlights the ways HSBC can help businesses set up base in Malta as well as local businesses to thrive internationally.

While showcasing Malta’s inspiring potential and great opportunities, along with its rich and cultured history, the film also highlights the island’s position as a centre of excellence in a number of sectors and a perfect international hub for business.

HSBC Malta CEO Mark Watkinson highlights HSBC’s role in supporting Malta’s growth and adding value to its economy, as well as using its global connectivity to help companies prosper at home and overseas.

Through breathtaking visuals, the film describes Malta as a modern, cost-effective Eurozone jurisdiction with attractive investment incentives, double tax agreements with major countries, and a clear regulatory framework.

HSBC Malta head of commercial banking Michel Cordina then explains HSBC’s aim to connect customers to opportunities, through more than 50 relationship managers on the ground providing an intricate level of support and insight of the local market.

He continues that Malta has a strategic location and a huge potential to become a main hub as a logistics, warehousing and distribution centre from where companies can service European and North African markets.

Why Malta? can be viewed at www.business.hsbc.com.mt and is also available in USB format. To obtain the Why Malta? USBs call on 2380 8000.

Another tool for businesses is the Doing Business in Malta guide, prepared by HSBC Bank Malta in conjunction with Grant Thornton. The guide provides invaluable insight into the key aspects of undertaking business and investing in Malta.

It aims to answer the key questions overseas businesses and entrepreneurs will have when making their first venture into the Maltese market. This is another tool which businesses can use to introduce Malta to their business counterparts around the globe.

The guide opens with an introduction about the business climate of Malta and the contours that shape it. A comprehensive legal overview then provides an understanding of political and legal systems as well as regulations affecting businesses, such as data protection, money laundering, and intellectual property rights.

Further chapters in the Doing Business in Malta guide shine light on conducting business in Malta, the tax system, labour market, trade and finance, and infrastructure.

In addition, HSBC regularly publishes thought-leadership content to help businesses understand why Malta has been a trading hub between continents for centuries.
