The Malta U-19 team are playing two friendly matches against Azerbaijan U-19s this week.

Led by new coach David De Sousa Nascimento and technical director Robert Gatt, the Malta U-19 squad flew out to Azerbaijan via Turkey yesterday.

Nascimento has taken 18 players to Baku. The Portuguese-born coach has called up the likes of Conor Borg, who recently secured a move to Roma, Matthew Guillaumier, the promising St Andrews midfielder, Hibs wing-back Joseph Mbong, Ħamrun playmaker Jake Grech, who recently had a trial with Italian club Spezia, Sliema striker Aidan Friggieri and Juan Corbalan, now on the books of Lanciano.

The two warm-up games between Azerbaijan and Malta are scheduled for tomorrow and Friday.
