Six members of the Malta Humanist Association are currently undergoing an intensive five-day course to prepare them to celebrate humanist weddings, funerals and other ceremonies, the association said.

Ramon Casha, Christian Colombo, Gail Debono, Josephine Gatt-Ciancio, Abigail Tonna and Reuben Zammit are being trained by David Pack and Steph Bramwell, celebrant trainers from the British Humanist Association.

Humanist ceremonies are secular ceremonies that capture the importance of key life events, whether welcoming a new baby into the world, celebrating a couple's marriage, or making a final farewell to a loved one who has died. Humanist ceremonies are very flexible and are planned between the celebrant and the people involved, to be very personal, meaningful, and most importantly, centred around the persons in question.

As more and more people choose a non-religious ceremony to mark these events, MHA celebrants will be in a position to create and conduct memorable and deeply meaningful ceremonies to mark these important occasions.

The training, at the Department of Education in Floriana, ends on Friday.
