I would like to thank and congratulate Oliver Mamo for his dedication in the field of libraries and public reading.
It’s true that some local libraries have very little to offer in the way of books, space and other amenities and attractions.
For years I have been complaining about the poor state of one of them, namely the San Ġwann public library.
There have been some very minor improvements but we’re far from having anything resembling the Marfa council library.
To start off with, the place is small, unattractive and dingy. There have been so many new educational buildings erected next to the San Ġwann primary school, and yet the authorities never thought of having a new state-of-the-art library.
I am in full agreement with Mr Mamo about introducing an e-book lending library. I must have been the first author to introduce e-books in Maltese and to date I have published eight e-books, five in Maltese and three in English.
That way I have been hoping to increase the number of book readers, especially the young, in Malta and abroad, who seem to be much more interested in modern gadgets.
