Wembley pitch: The Football Association has accepted Jose Mourinho’s criticism of the Wembley pitch during Chelsea’s Community Shield loss to Arsenal as a “disaster”. The Blues boss was unhappy with the playing surface at the national stadium during Arsenal’s 1-0 win yesterday. Mourinho said: “The pitch was a disaster. The pitch was so bad and so slow.”

Dutch Super Cup: Luuk de Jong scored twice as champions PSV Eindhoven handed out a stark warning to the other Dutch league title contenders with a 3-0 win over Groningen in the Super Cup yesterday. The international striker headed home the opener after 24 minutes in PSV’s first real attack of the season-opening game at the Amsterdam Arena and showed his poaching instinct with a sharp close-range finish in the 63rd minute. Adam Maher scored the second goal for PSV against last season’s Cup winners.

Coolen: Rini Coolen is to temporarily leave his post as head of youth development at PEC Zwolle and lead the small Caribbean island of Aruba in World Cup qualification, the Dutch club said yesterday. PEC have a co-operation agreement with Aruba’s football association and have hosted several coaches from the island for instruction and Coolen has been asked to take charge of two qualifiers next month. Aruba play St Vincent and the Grenadines over two legs on Sept. 4 and 9 to decide a place in the group phase of CONCACAF qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
