On the morning of July 11 I took to the shops as I usually do, mostly when there are sales on. I stopped at an ATM machine and withdrew a substantial sum of money. I ended up buying nothing because someone had stolen my purse. In it was €250, my ID card, my driving licence and letter box keys. I rushed to cancel my bank cards.

At the police station there were two young girls from The Netherlands and two Americans who were pickpocketed as well. We agreed that the thieves were probably Eastern Europeans, as one of the girls came into contact with one of them.

Apparently I was the 12th person to report a theft that day. This kind of thing is happening all over our island and I have heard various experiences of other people who also fell victim.

What are we going to do to stop it?
