So the hawkers say that the government has gone back on the pre-election agreement (in writing) to the effect that they will be given the right to set up stalls in Valletta’s Ordnance Street in exchange for their vote. Well they got their vote all right!

But I just cannot understand how these hawkers and those who represent them could not see that the chances of them occupying the prestigious place next to the Renzo Piano marvel were nil.

I pity the hawkers, but they should have never sold their vote.  I have no crystal ball, but I think that in the long run, we taxpayers will be again footing the bill to make good for the bailing out of the ‘unlucky’ hawkers who will not have a space in Ordnance Street.
