Daniel Grech’s letter in The Sunday Times of Malta (July 19) is either a joke or an insult to general intelligence. If the only reason to introduce Tallinja cards was to reduce time to board buses, why not introduce cards like the UK’s Oyster, which could be made available even upon arrival at the airport.

There would be no need to fill in time-consuming applications and taking pictures, storing personal details to get the Tallinja card, also saving time when boarding buses.

Why should travellers resort to such a lengthy procedure to obtain cards? It is pathetic seeing the queues at bus stations to get cards or information, with no customer care in sight.

Which other countries have introduced a system where you need to apply online before travelling to obtain such cards? Why doesn’t the government admit that while pacifying local voting residents with a lower fare, it is fleecing tourists and others who may not have a local personal address or ID? It is a two-tier fare system. Why not concentrate on better, frequent and efficient services?
