I refer to John Zammit’s letter (The Sunday Times of Malta, July 26) regarding the filing of official police reports.
The police proceed quickly only when acknowledging reports received. Further correspondence takes years, not months, to finalise matters, if you are ever lucky. Ignoring reports from the public is an ingrained habit with the police.
Should ever a decision be taken on any matter the police are always right and their decision is final, however illogical or banal it may be.
According to the Police Commissioner, police administration is being reorganised for better efficiency and to regain the respect of the public. Only time will tell whether efficiency and accountability will ever be regained as fake promises are the order of the day.
Let’s hope for the best.
