The coastal watch tower at Dwejra, Gozo, will be open to the public on August 14 from 9pm to 1am to enable people to observe the phenomenon of the Perseids Meteor Shower (also known as the Tears of St Lawrence). The tower is situated in one of the few remaining areas n the Maltese islands still free of light pollution, making it ideal to view the spectacle.

Michael Nolle, a member of the Astronomical Society of Malta, will give short talks at the tower throughout the evening about features in the night sky visible from Dwejra.

As the tower is located at the top of an unlit country track, visitors are advised to bring a torch and wear suitable shoes.

The initiative forms part of events marking Din l-Art Ħelwa’s 50th anniversary.

Entrance is free of charge but donations for the upkeep of the tower by Din l-Art Ħelwa would be accepted.
