Mazars Malta, a member firm of international auditing firm Mazars, recently launched the first of a series of information sessions branded ‘Made Simple, by Mazars’. The objective of these sessions is to make it possible and convenient for end-customers to receive practical information by professionals, particularly from a fiscal, financial and regulatory perspective, that can help them make the right decisions for their business and for their own personal well-being.

Mazars Malta partner Alan Craig stated that the idea behind ‘Made Simple, by Mazars’ was to “render topics which to the layman would perhaps appear as being very technical and complex, easier to understand.

“At the same time, the information obtained from these sessions will empower people to analyse and evaluate the options available on various issues for themselves, and allow them to take appropriate action as required in their circumstances”.

The first session in the ‘Made Simple, by Mazars’ series was held in conjunction with Belair Properties, and focused on the subject of ‘Taxation and VAT on Immovable Property’. Participants at the event, who numbered around 75, were addressed by Paul Giglio, Mazars Malta’s tax partner, who introduced the ‘Made Simple’ concept and the scope of that day’s session.

Ruth Farrugia, direct tax senior manager at Mazars, followed with a presentation on tax implications on rental income and other issues relating to property.

Finally, Sarah Casolani, VAT manager at Mazars Malta, elaborated on the implications of VAT on rental income and how to deal with related licensing issues.
