The police have been asked to investigate a report of alleged abuse on a resident at St Vincent de Paul, the Family Ministry said.

Without going into what the alleged incident was, the ministry said in a statement that as soon as the report was made, the administration of the residence took the necessary action and passed on the information to the police.

The ministry and the administration of the residence they felt they should refer the incident to the authorities for justice to be made in the shortest time possible, the ministry said.

In a reaction, social policy shadow minister Paula Mifsud Bonnic and spokesman Robert Cutajar said the Nationalist Party condemned all kinds of abuse on the elderly.

They said political parties should always work to ensure that the rights of the elderly were safeguarded. It also insisted that the government should treat all kinds of abuse in the same manner.
