Team Malta bagged their first gold medal in the 2015 Special Olympics World Games as Christabel Borg won the table tennis singles competition at the Los Angeles Convention Centre yesterday.

Borg placed first ahead of Thailand player Darunee Sae-khachue and Dominika Rastocna, of Slovakia. Claire Monney, of Ivory Coast, finished fourth overall.

This was the fifth medal won by Team Malta in Los Angeles.

Earlier this week, swimmer Klara Zammit placed second in the F2 Division 400 metres freestyle race and third in the 1,500 metres freestyle.

In bowling, Philip Gruppetta and Natasha Bianchi won a bronze medal in the doubles competition at the Lucky Strike Centre.

Bocce player Mark Agius placed second in the singles event at the Los Angeles Convention Centre.
