Two Swiss men who were caught skinny dipping in Sliema yesterday afternoon were today fined €100 after they admitted that they had no clue that swimming naked was illegal in Malta.

Benjamin Elias and Eric Albert, both 21-year-old Swiss students, told the court that skinny dipping was legal in Switzerland and that they had no clue that it was illegal in Malta.

Magistrate Antonio Vella told the youths that swimming naked was illegal in most parts of the world. He fined them €100 after hearing how they apologised for their actions and said they were sorry for what they had done.

Police Inspector Jason Sultana prosecuted while lawyer Martin Fenech appeared for the tourists.
