Swimming at Dawret it-Tunnara in the vicinity of the Ghajn Zejtuna boathouses at Ghadira has been prohibited until further notice because of sewage overflowing into the sea, the Environmental Health Directorate said.

A notice to inform people not to swim in the area was put up at around 11am.

People who were swimming were informed of the situation and a Water Services Employee is on site to inform anyone arriving about the situation.

Meanwhile, the necessary repairs are also being carried out.

The Water Services Corporation said this evening the overflow was caused by a blockage in one of the household private connections which resulted in drainage overflowing in the storm water culvert that led to the bay.

Although caused by damage arising from within a private property, the WSC removed this blockage to avoid any further inconvenience to the public.

Health Department officials were informed to take any further necessary action and ensure that the house connection was in order.
